Police detained 31 Congress workers, including the district city of Agra and the state president of the party's youth wing, for staging a protest on the Agra-Delhi highway against Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha on Saturday.
An FIR was registered under Section 186 of the IPC (obstructing a public servant in the performance of duty), Section 144 of the CPC and the Criminal Code Amendment Act.
SHO (New Agra) Vijay Vikram Singh said, "Congress workers blocked a lane on the Agra-Delhi highway leading to a traffic jam for hours, affecting local residents. Despite repeated requests, the protesters did not disperse and caused a public disturbance." A total of 31 persons have been named in the FIR registered on the basis of a complaint received from a sub-inspector on duty."
Congress district president Raghvendra Singh said, "The FIR was registered on the instructions of the state government. We cleared the highway after the police asked us to do so."
